San Francisco 49ers Elijah Mitchell is slated to miss the preseason with a hamstring issue.

Elijah Mitchell is projected to miss all three 49ers preseason games with a hamstring injury, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter's source said Mitchell should be ready for the regular season.

Mitchell missed Wednesday's practise and Friday's preseason opener against the Packers.

Through two weeks of camp, Mitchell was San Francisco's starting running back.

Trey Sermon, Tyrion Davis-Price, and JaMycal Hasty will handle exhibition carries without Mitchell.

Jeff Wilson Jr. and a huge number of crucial 49ers didn't play versus Green Bay.

Mitchell rushed for 963 yards as a rookie despite missing six games (ribs, knee, finger, shoulder and concussion).

Mitchell returned to camp heavier after knee surgery, hoping to handle the workload.

Mitchell's muscular strain follows that of cornerback Charvarius Ward earlier this week.
