Lindsey Vonn's mother died after a year with ALS. The athlete called her mum "a brilliant beacon that will never fade"

"She died peacefully while I held her hand, one year after her diagnosis," she shared on instagram

"I'm grateful for our time together, but I'm pleased she's at peace. She forever inspired me."

Lindsey re-shared the dedication to her mother in her 2022 memoir, Rise.

"Not because of what she did for my skiing career, but because of her positivity," she wrote.

"She assisted me through every challenge. Her hardships made her stronger, gentler, and humbler.

Then, "I wish to be tough like you, mom. I wish to have your enthusiasm and optimism every day.

Lindsey, who retired in 2019, was backed by Allyson Felix, Sabine Lisicki, Ashley Graham, and Karen Fairchild.

The Rock Johnson wrote, "My sympathies, friend. Sending love, light, and mana."

Lindy's death comes two months after Lindsey paid tribute to her in her Hall of Fame speech.

"I want to dedicate this to my mother," she stated in June. "She has ALS.
