Anne Heche "Does Not Expected to Survive" After Suffering a Brain Injury

Anne Heche's agent tells PEOPLE the actress suffers a severe brain injury and organ donation preparations are ongoing.

Anne suffered anoxic brain damage in her accident and remains in a coma, a family representative said.

"She's on life support to see if any of her organs are viable," a spokesman tells PEOPLE.

The statement expresses thanks for the assistance and attention offered to Heche, 53, after the Aug. 5 incident.

A family spokeswoman said Anne's goodwill touched everyone she encountered.

The actress hasn't recovered consciousness in the six days following her vehicle incident in Mar Vista, Los Angeles.

A spokesman for the actress informed PEOPLE on Aug. 8 that she needs artificial breathing and surgery for burns.

"She went into a coma immediately following the accident and has not come to since then."

As word of Heche's tragedy spread, fans and friends flooded social media with sympathy.

James Tupper, Heche's longtime companion until January 2018, also extended his regards.
